About PracticalBench
PracticalBench is a collection of practical tools that help people calculate, check, compare, inspect and understand real-world problems — from working out how much concrete a patio needs, to what it costs to charge an EV, to budgeting a home renovation.
What we aim to help with
Every tool on PracticalBench solves one specific, real problem. We don't publish generic content for its own sake — if a tool exists here, it's because it does a genuinely useful calculation, conversion, check or comparison, with its assumptions shown rather than hidden.
How the site is structured
Tools are grouped into categories by the kind of problem they solve — Build, Drive, Home, and more as they're added. Each category page lists the tools available in it; each tool page explains what it does, how it works, what it assumes, and where it falls short.
Design philosophy
- Tools run in your browser wherever practical — nothing is uploaded unless a tool explicitly says otherwise.
- Assumptions and methodology are shown, not buried.
- Results are estimates based on the inputs you give — see our disclaimer.
- No account, no paywall, no dark patterns in how privacy choices are presented.
